Ball State Judo Club Constitution

Article I Club Name And Location

The name of this club shall be the Ball State Judo Club, located at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Article II Purpose

The purpose of this club is to promote and practice the sport of judo. This club operates under the affiliations of United States Judo Incorporated (USJI) and Indian Judo Incorporated (IJI), the national and state governing bodies.
Article III Membership
A. Regular membership shall be limited to Ball State University students, faculty and staff.
No student or faculty will be discriminated against due to his/her race, age, sex, religion, color, national origin, physical or mental handicap, or status as a veteran in the selection of members.

B. Visitation privileges can be granted to students in the Judo classes on the suggestion of the Executive Committee.

Article IV Officers And Duties

Section 1: Elections

The officers will be elected annually at the beginning of the fall semester. This will be done by the fourth week of the semester. Newly elected officers will assume their offices immediately following the elections.

There shall be no restrictions on the number offices a person may run for; however, any one person may hold only one office per year.

Only regular members may hold offices. Honorary and visiting members will have no voting privileges, and cannot hold office.

Every member that has paid dues for the year has a right to vote.

The order of election shall be as follow: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section 2: Term of Office

The President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer shall hold office for one year. No person may hold the same office for more than two consecutive years.

Section 3: Officers

A. The president shall be the presiding officer and shall be an upperclassman of at least junior status. He or She shall serve as a member of all committees appointed by the officers.

B. The Vice President shall assist the president in his duties and shall perform those duties in case of absence. This officer must be of at least sophomore class standing In case the Vice President should be called upon to perform the duties of the President, regular members at the next meeting will elect a new Vice-President.

C. The Secretary and Treasurer shall keep record of all meetings. He/she will conduct all correspondence and keep files on all events and activities of the club. They will be responsible for collecting all dues, and paying all bills approved by the sponsor of the club. They will also keep an accurate record of all money received and dispersed. They will give a report of financial status at the beginning and end of every semester. It will be the Sec./Tres. responsibility to handle all money allotted for tournament trips and other activities.

D. There will be one head instructor appointed by the Executive Committee. The head instructor must have the ranking of Ikkyu (1st degree brown belt) or above. The head instructor may be appointed from outside the regular membership.

E. There shall be a faculty advisor of the club.

F. The Executive Committee shall consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Head Instructor, and Faculty Sponsor. Should the head instructor come from outside the regular membership, they shall hold no voting privileges on the executive committee, but will be allowed to participate in discussions within the executive committee.

Article V Meetings And Workouts

The Executive Committee will meet once a month on a decided day to discuss activities and business of the club.

The workouts will be scheduled each semester according to the availability of the facilities. This will be decided by the Executive Committee and relayed to the members.

Article VI Finance

The Secretary, Treasurer, or President can complete the appropriate paperwork for reimbursement, then obtain the faculty advisor’s signature of approval.

Article VII Administration

This constitution may be amended by a quorum consisting of 2/3 or of the active membership.

All members will be expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner at all times during tournaments and contests. All members of Ball State Judo Club shall display sportsmanship and courtesy expected of ambassadors of Ball State University.

Article VIII Committees

All committees will be on a volunteer basis. The Executive Committee will appoint chairpersons of committees.

Temporary Committee will be appointed when needed by the President or faculty advisor.
